I am one of four apprentices at Texas Traditions Boot Shop, in Austin, Texas. Lee Miller, the master bootmaker we are learning from, is always telling us apprentices the history of the shop and talking about bootmakers of the past. There are so many stories in bootmaking! This project–to reach out to master and apprentice bootmakers– aims to make some of the stories within the craft more accessible to all! I am very thankful to everyone who shared their perspectives…and especially those who dug through their old photo drawers to contribute some amazing shots of their own bootmaking pasts.
