I’ve been getting Chistmas cards. They’ve been makin’ me happy…reminding me of some nice times I’ve had this year, and some of the people I’ve met. I feel quite honored to be on Bob Dellis’ holiday list…and I got a card from my new pal, Pascal (It’s got Santa doin’ rope tricks on it). Mrs. Bourland (from the Harbord Motel in Coleman.TX) sent me a card with a penned note so sweet, I got kinda misty-eyed readin’ it.
I’ve been working my web page today…and working on my New Year’s resolutions. I take these resolutions very seriously. I really do. I put a lot of thought into ’em. Last year, I resolved to learn how to make a pair cowboy boots …and I’ve got ’em on my feet right now.
This was no ordinary day. Tonight I had to turn my chair around (or maybe it was my way of thinking?) to update this weblog. My home “office” is not very big. I have my desk against the wall, and my sewing machine is sittin’ right behind me, smack dab in the middle of the room. One chair is all I have room for….and it’s almost always facing my desk. My desk is the place I sit down after work and update my web page, read e-mail, talk on the phone…and shuffle my bills around and around. Last night, however, I sat facing my sewing machine and practiced my stitching. I was “free-handing” leafy shapes for a top secret Christmas project.
I think I’ve decided to leave my chair facing my Singer from now on…so whenever I make that 180 degree turn, it’s gonna be away from bootmaking…rather than towards it.
I’ve been working to update my web page, for all those of you who’ve been patiently waiting. Right now I’m revamping a bunch of the graphics and the page layout so it’s been taking me a looooooong time. Unfortunately, I have also have been getting distracted by relentless home repair projects. I live with my friend Ann, and it’s my job to fix things when they break…like the doorbell. I went to Home Depot and got a new one…one that plays 64 different tunes. I laughed out loud in the store aisle when I found out it played the theme song to The Magnificent Seven.
The Magnificent Seven (2000) Starring: Jennifer June and her roomate, Ann Synopsis: Hollywood-style adaptation of Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai about small Barbie-style dream house plagued by UPS deliveries, and a band of small neighborhood children demanding attention. This influential doorway is highlighted by cameo appearances from a strong, soon-to-be-famous cast, and an acclaimed musical score. Solid, suspenseful entertainment for classic Western fans. Runtime: an average of 3 minutes MPAA Rating: NR Genres: Action, Drama, Suspense, Western
Sometimes Thursdays are hard, one long day away from Friday…”boot day”. Today was hard. I’m helping some folks make some program decisions at my day job. They need about a three foot high pile of paper to help them to agree and to plan. Someone asked me for some demographic data, census population numbers that the State agency had provided, I remembered from sometime last week that the paper it was on was green. And then I thought some more about it and got frustrated…mad that I was letting my brain fill up with garbage like that, remembering green paper. That all those bureaucratic details are bound to be squeezing out boot stuff, stuff I learned in Texas.
Sometimes my life doesn’t seem to make much sense…day jobs and boot dreams…seems a little like some kinda Roger Miller song.
“You can’t crimp vamps on an advisory board…
You can’t crimp vamps on an advisory board…
You can’t crimp vamps on an advisory board…
…but you can be happy if you’ve a mind to.
You can’t take a shower in a parakeet cage…
You can’t take a shower in a parakeet cage…
You can’t take a shower in a parakeet cage…
…but you can be happy if you’ve a mind to,
all you gotta do is put your mind to it.
…knuckle down, buckle down…do it…do it…do it.”
Tomorrow morning I’ll work on my web page update…maybe get the lip knife out, or try sewing in circles. (tgif)
