Best Artist Award: Art to Wear
Lisa Sorrell was taken by surprise by her award…saying that bootmakers are often overlooked in design shows like this. Perhaps this is because cowboy boots so often hold true to their “function” …whereas the jackets and jewelry can reach much farther into fantasy.
Lisa’s “Water Serpent” boots have an intricate inlay design and beautiful finishing work which showcase Lisa’s fine craftsmanship… the movement found in her serpent’s curving path illustrates Lisa’s artistic flair.
Southwest Design Conference 2005
Tomorrow morning I’m off to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I’ll be attending the Southwestern Design Conference…where Lisa Sorrell & J.B. Hill boots are among the exhibitors.
This trips got it all fashion shows, museums…new boots, old boots…bootmakers, collectors, dealers. Stay tuned for a few sights (and sounds) of Santa Fe.
Bootmakers in the News — David Espinoza
Here’s a short article about custom bootmaker, David Espinoza.
Mr. Espinoza learned bootmaking from Jesse Bogle. In 1991 David Espinoza bought Mr. Bogle’s boot shop and made custom cowboy boots for his customers using Bogle designs. Mr. Bogle continued to work in the shop until 1997 when he retired. Jesse Bogle died in July 2001.
